Learning at Work Week 2021

 

This week (17-23 May) is Learning at Work Week, an annual event to build learning cultures at work. It aims to put a spotlight on the importance and benefits of continual learning and development.

This year’s theme is the topic of ‘Growth Mindset’ a learning theory that revolves around the belief that you can improve your intelligence, ability and performance.

We have a wide range of training courses on offer for our colleagues across the Group to help growth mindset, ability and performance. A number of our colleagues have already taken the opportunity to take further qualifications in housing and property, and leadership and management.

Charlotte one of our supported living co-ordinators, completed her Housing and Property Management Level 3 in January 2021. She said despite it being a difficult journey with having to undergo an operation, a new and busy role, national lockdown and two children at home, she completed her assignments.

“Looking back, I don’t know how I managed to do it but here I am with my certificate! Initially, after being away from education for more than 10 years, I did find it difficult to get into the swing of things but after my first workshop and assignment, things got easier.

“I received great support from my manager and my colleagues who helped me gather information I needed for the course.

“Doing this has definitely improved my performance at work. It has given me great insight as to how our company works in line with regulations and why I complete certain tasks within my job role to ensure compliancy.

“Learning at work also helped me complete certain aspects of course that I needed such as my project and resident involvement. I highly recommend doing it.”

Neighbourhood engagement officer Tanuja, completed her ILM Level 3 Diploma in December 2020 during lockdown, with many sessions with her tutor on Zoom.

She said: “I set time aside in the evenings to make sure that I didn’t fall behind and because this was something I wanted to do, I made time for it. I also read around the subjects to make sure I got the best of the course. Because of the nature of my job there were days when I was busy out in the community delivering projects so I made up for it using my own time.

“The qualification has given me an opportunity to enhance my career progression to the next step in management and a solid understanding of teamwork and what makes a good team.  I will be sharing my learning with my team members so that we can all benefit in ways we work in the community, better our understanding when working with customers for a greater engagement and when developing new project ideas. “
