School’s Out for Summer: Help to Combat ‘Holiday Hunger’

To help vulnerable families across our communities now schools have closed for the summer holidays, some supermarkets are lending a helping hand to combat holiday hunger.

From 17 July – 13 August, Morrison’s has introduced Ask For Ellen – a scheme in which you can receive two free Warburtons crumpets with butter and jam (one per customer per day) by simply asking for Ellen at any UK Morrison’s café till point. Absolutely anyone can #AskForEllen, all day, every day, no questions asked.

Asda has introduced £1 meals for children from 12pm every day in most Asda cafes until the end of 2023. This deal is available seven days a week with no minimum spend required. Baby food is also available as part of the deal and children will also be able to receive a free piece of fruit with their meal.  Adults can also eat for half price from 3pm until 4 September.

Tesco is providing one free hot kids meal deal, kids breakfast or pick ‘n’ mix deal with a Clubcard from 24 July – 1 September on Mondays to Fridays.

Our Neighbourhood Engagement Team is also planning a range of summer holiday food interventions, including holiday hunger lunch parcels, voucher schemes and clubs offering food support. There will be more details to follow soon.
